This is a list of what you need to know about using Facebook for your Business. Using Facebook for business is the best first step to get your company in front of millions of potential customers and clients. You need to have an account on Facebook in order to create a Page for your business. Your business Page will be tied to your personal profile as the admin of your page; however, only you and Facebook need to know the connection exists. You have the option of always interacting on your Page as your Page and keeping your personal profile protected. Or, you could choose to feature your profile in the “About” section and also engage on your own page from time to time as your profile, if you wish. You can have an unlimited number of Facebook Pages. You can have an unlimited number of fans (Facebook users who “Like” your page). Facebook Pages are public—anyone can find and view your Page whether they are logged into Facebook or not. All content posted on your Facebook Page gets indexed on Google. You can target your posts by location and language. (Look for the button right next to the “Post” button). The new Timeline design will automatically apply to all Pages from March 30th, 2012. Just like your personal profile, you can add a large cover image to your Page. The dimensions are the same, 851x315px. Facebook has tight rules around what cannot be placed on Page cover images, including no contact information or calls to action. You can add applications to your page, including your own custom content—video, rich text, graphics, opt-in box and more. You can add additional Admins (highly recommended). All Admins have equal rights to administer your page, including adding and removing other Admins (choose with care!). Contact us, if you have any questions....

Google today Aug. 28th that it is bringing HD-quality video to Hangouts, its video chat service. The rollout will start with Hangouts on Air, the live-streamed version of Hangouts that makes group chats available for viewing by anybody on Google+, YouTube and as embeds on a user’s website. Everybody else will be able to get access to this feature “over the next few weeks.” As Google notes, the higher video quality obviously requires an HD-capable webcam, as well as more bandwidth and processing power than a regular video chat. As our friends over at Gigaom noted earlier today, the company also switched from using the H.264 video codec to its own open VP8 codec in preparation for this move. This switch, Google VP of Engineering Chee Chew told Gigaom, should be virtually invisible for users, but its adoption has now enabled Google to turn on this HD feature. via Google+ Hangouts Go HD, Starting With Hangouts On Air |...

This week Facebook’s ban-bot went berserk; Github went down; and all Google services collapsed for a few minutes, taking 40% of the Internet with them. Just another week on the Internet, then. We love our centralized services, until they let us down.Bruce Sterling calls them “the Stacks”: Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Google, Microsoft. In his most recent always riveting State of the World conversation, he wrote:In 2012 it made less and less sense to talk about “the Internet,” “the PC business,” “telephones,” “Silicon Valley,” or “the media,” and much more sense to just study Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon and Microsoft. These big five American vertically organized silos are re-making the world in their image.Other proto-Stacks want to join that number. Once upon a time, Twitter was essentially a protocol: then they became aware of “the increasing importance of us providing the core Twitter consumption experience through a consistent set of products and tools.” Meaning they want to be a Stack. Github used to just host git repositories; now it does issue tracking, project management, and more. Call it a specialized business Stack for software development. And Yahoo is either a second-tier Stack or a Stack wannabe, depending on how generous you’re feeling today. They don’t want much, those Stacks. Just your identity, your allegiance, and all of your data. Just to be your sole provider of messaging, media, merchandise, and metadata. Just to take part in as much of your online existence as they possibly can, and maybe to one day mediate your every interaction with the world around you, online or off. via The Internet: We’re Doing It Wrong |...
